Are you new to growing plants? Are you nervous about planting your very first edibles as they might just turn out to be fruitless labor? Well, fear not! While not entirely foolproof, some plants are by and large perfect for gardening newbies who only want to increase their chances of doing well at crop growing. Below is a list of the top ten easiest veggies that anyone can grow regardless of age or skill level.

 

  1. Radishes. Among all plants, radish is by far the easiest to grow. They cool-season loving crops which are best planted in early springtime or during early fall season. They are very quick to sprout that radishes are ready to harvest within just four to five weeks.
  2. Carrots. Although carrots can tolerate light shade, they best grown in full sun and sandy soil. For better germination, pay attention to essential planting conditions such as soil temperature (18°C to 24°C) and moisture.
  3. Lettuce. Lettuce and other salad greens are among those easy-to-grow cool-season crops. In fact, they thrive best when planted in early springtime or during fall, and once the heat of the summer comes, they start to bolt or set seed and even become bitter. For continuous harvest all throughout the season, plant lettuce and other salad greens every couple of weeks.
  4. Tomatoes. One of the most popular vegetables grown at home is the tomatoes. A lot of its varieties are mainly suitable for both planting in your garden and in growing in containers. These plants are warm-season loving and are easily grown with sunlight and moisture.
  5. Peppers. Peppers commonly require a long growing season and tend to love heat. That’s why it’s best to wait until the soil has finally warmed up before you plant them out. Also, instead of planting seeds, it’s ideal to plant young seedlings to give this plant ample time to mature before frost. Provide even moisture for peppers especially during flowering when its fruits start to set.
  6. Cucumbers. Like carrots, cucumbers are warm-season veggies that also prefer light and require full sun. You can start planting its seeds once the soil has warmed up and all threats from frost have finally passed. You need just a few plants to grow lots of cucumbers.
  7. Peas. Peas are known to be one of the earliest producers, although soil moisture is very important for these plants. It’s preferable to sow seeds early in the spring as soon as you can work the soil.
  8. Green beans. Known to be highly productive, green beans are among those of which are the easiest to grow. Because they never tolerate cooler temperatures (particularly when the soil is damp), ensure that you only plant their seeds after the danger of frost is gone. While bush types don’t require staking, pole-type ones generally require support.
  9. Onions. Onions normally benefit from a well-drained soil with rich compost or with well-rotted manure added to it. These plants can be grown from seed, but because of the long-growing season it requires, most gardeners end up planting small bulbs instead known as “sets”.
  10. Zucchini. Known as highly prolific summer squash, zucchinis are best planted when the soil has warmed up enough between 21°C to 27°C. Its seeds do not germinate in cool, damp soil. It’s important to remember that even and adequate soil moisture is very crucial to grow zucchinis. Just one or two plants are basically all that’s needed for you to produce a bumper crop.
